Case Study | GBRS Group Gear

How NinjaNutz Helped GBRS Group Gear Scale Smarter with Custom Shopify Development

GBRS Group Gear is a tactical gear brand with a demanding customer base and a complex product catalog. Over a multi-year partnership, NinjaNutz built a series of custom Shopify solutions that made their store easier to manage, faster to update, and more effective for both retail and wholesale customers.

Services provided: Custom Theme Development, Metafield Architecture, B2B Channel Optimization, Ongoing Development Support.

The Scope

GBRS Group Gear came to us with two distinct challenges.

The first was a content management problem. Their store relied on multiple product templates - one for each product type that needed custom content. Every time an update was needed, it had to be made across several templates simultaneously. This created unnecessary work for their team and introduced risk of inconsistency.

The second challenge was their B2B channel. Wholesale buyers had a purchase flow that wasn't optimized for how they actually shop - quickly, in volume, and without needing to browse like a retail customer.

The Implementation

Metafield-Based Product Template System

We rebuilt their entire product template architecture using Shopify metafields. Instead of maintaining multiple templates, the store now runs on a single default product template that dynamically pulls in unique content for each product via metafields.

This means:

  • One template to maintain instead of many
  • Unique content per product without duplication
  • Updates made once, reflected everywhere instantly
  • Significantly less time spent on day-to-day store management

Custom B2B Channel Features

We developed a series of custom features specifically for GBRS Group Gear's wholesale buyers, designed to streamline the purchase flow from browsing to checkout. These features were built to match how B2B customers actually buy - efficiently and with minimal friction - while keeping the retail experience completely separate and unaffected.

The Result

The new template architecture gave the GBRS team back hours of admin time previously spent managing duplicate templates. Staff could now update product content in one place and trust it would reflect correctly across the entire catalog.

The B2B channel improvements created a more professional and efficient buying experience for wholesale customers - one that matched the high standards of the GBRS brand.

The partnership with NinjaNutz has continued across multiple projects, with ongoing custom development supporting the brand's growth.
