What Happened With Shopify in June 2026 (And What It Means for Your Store)

June was the biggest month Shopify has had in years. The Spring '26 Edition dropped on June 17 with over 150 updates, a hard deadline hit on June 30 that broke checkout for thousands of Plus stores, and the platform is coming off its strongest quarter ever, crossing $100 billion in GMV for the first time in Q1 2026. Here is what actually happened and what to do about it.
The Spring '26 "Everywhere Edition": What Actually Shipped
Shopify's Spring '26 Edition shipped June 17, 2026 with over 150 updates built around one idea: your products show up wherever a customer is buying, not just on your storefront.
The two pieces of infrastructure behind that are Shopify Catalog and the Universal Commerce Protocol.
The Universal Commerce Protocol is now enabled by default on every Shopify store. It is the standard that lets AI shopping agents read your catalog and build carts, so your products are discoverable to agents automatically rather than after a custom build. There is now an Agentic section in every admin where you can manage AI channels, see how your products surface to agents, and track agent-driven performance.
The numbers behind this matter. AI-driven store traffic is up 8x and orders from AI searches are up nearly 13x year over year. This is not a future trend. It is happening now, and June gave every merchant the dashboard to measure it.
The June 30 Scripts Deadline: If You Missed It, Act Now
Shopify Scripts stopped running for good on June 30, 2026. If your store is on Plus and still uses Scripts for discounts, shipping, or payment rules, they went dark with no storefront warning.
This is the most operationally urgent item from June. If your discount codes, shipping customizations, or payment logic stopped working after June 30 and you are not sure why, Scripts is the first place to check. The migration path is Shopify Functions. Native A/B Testing: No More Third-Party Apps
Rollouts now let you plan and test themes, checkout, and customer account configurations with greater flexibility. Shopify automatically creates copies of your live configurations so experiments run independently of your live store. Multiple parallel tests are possible as long as they do not interfere with one another.
For stores that have been paying for third-party A/B testing tools, this changes the math significantly. The native version is built into the admin, requires no app install, and runs off your live store data.
Sidekick Got a Significant Upgrade
Sidekick is now more deeply integrated with your business. It can access more data, take more action, deliver deeper insights in context, and is available across more devices including through voice on mobile. Sidekick App Extensions now connect third-party apps directly to Sidekick, including Klaviyo, Loop, and Smile, so you can get answers and take action across your tools in a single conversation.
Retail and POS Updates Worth Knowing
POS staff permissions now live together with admin staff permissions in Settings > Users, instead of the POS channel, so you can manage your whole team from one place. This update also adds support for suspending and reactivating seasonal staff, assigning multiple roles to one staff member, and on Shopify Plus, granting POS access across multiple shops in an organization with a single user profile.
Staff can now create a pickup order in Shopify POS for fulfillment at a different retail location, making it possible to help a customer in-store, find stock at another location, and place the order for pickup there in the same selling flow.
B2B Got More Powerful
B2B discounts are now enabled by default for new stores and many existing stores, and can be specifically controlled via Markets for B2B or non-B2B customers. Shopify Flow can now automatically charge saved payment methods for B2B orders as soon as a payment is due, via saved cards or bank accounts.
What This All Means for Your Store
Three clear takeaways from June.
The shift to agentic commerce is fully infrastructure-level now. UCP is on by default. Your products are already being indexed. The stores that have clean, complete product data are the ones that get recommended. If you have not checked your Agentic dashboard yet, do it this week.
If you are on Plus and used Scripts, check your checkout now. Discount codes, shipping rules, and payment customizations built on Scripts are gone. The failure is silent, which means customers may have already seen broken behavior without you knowing.
Native A/B testing removes a tool cost and a data lag. If you have been putting off conversion testing because of the setup overhead, that reason is gone.
If any of this affects your store and you are not sure what to do next, we have been working on this platform since 2016 and are happy to point you in the right direction.
